Experiencing Jesus in the Gospels

For hundreds of years Christians have practiced imaginative contemplation. This is a method of meditating on the gospel stories in a way that helps us not only focus on Jesus’ teaching (which is very important), but also focus on Him. It’s a way to engage our entire mind and heart, not just our intellect, with God’s Word.

You may think, “I am not particularly imaginative or creative… I’m not sure how I feel about this… I’ll just stick to Bible study.” I thought this for quite some time. Then, I met people who practiced this spiritual discipline regularly and their deep understanding of God’s love and attention to His invitations convinced me to at least try it. I ended up developing a “beginners” method to this old spiritual practice. I will share it this morning. I hope it will bless you has much as it has me.
